23rd November 2025PlayStation 4 Firmware 12.52 Exploit Released – Mod your console and play all the games
A brand new PlayStation 4 exploit has just been released allowing us to jailbreak consoles running firmwares up to and including 12.52. This went live just a day ago at the end of November 2025. So if you’ve stuck on firmware 12.50 or 12.52 your wait is over.
If you’ve updated to 13.00 or 13.02 you’ll have to hang on for a while yet but do make sure to turn off your auto updates to keep your wait time as low as possible.
This new exploit uses the same Blu-ray disk entry point as the previous Lapse mod so you’ll either need access to a Blu-ray disk writer, or I’m sure there will be a number of budding entrepreneurs who’ll be selling disks on eBay and elsewhere within a day or so.
In this video I’ll walk you through the process of creating your own Blu-ray disk and then how to get it up and running on your PlayStation 4.
Finding Games
On of the most common questions I get with console modding is where do you get the games from?
There are a lot of places on the internet that claim to supply game backup files but quite a few of them seem very dodgy. My advise is to avoid any downloads that use some sort of download manager app that you have to install on your computer, or that download files that contain executable files. This is the main way you’ll get your computer hacked.
I find there are a few reliable sources for backup files. Again I’m not going to give direct links here in case YouTube take offence to me linking to this page but you can easily find them with some targeted search terms.
For pretty much any home computer or console up to the PS3 or Xbox 360 have a look for the roms megathread. That should throw up some pages that will head you over to the Myrient archives.
For PlayStation 4 games I tend to use the Super PSX website – again a quick search will uncover that one.
Other than those Vimm’s Lair is back up and running and the Internet Archive is always a great place to have a look around.
